The best-dressed woman at the Golden Globes

A major sartorial triumph of the Golden Globes belongs to one of my favorite actresses, Evan Rachel Wood (also known as nine-lives Dolores in HBO’s addictive Westworld). The 29-year old actress showed up to the awards ceremony in a custom tuxedo by Altuzarra. Not only was the suit itself stunning, with unique, feminine touches like a white vest/neck bow combo and super sleek flared pants, but her message was simply amazing. When asked about her ensemble, Wood told interviewers that she opted for a pantsuit in order to send a message to young girls that they don’t always have to choose a dress for a formal event. Yes, Rachel!

What a powerful, important, and mature statement to make. She mentioned that while she does love dresses, and is “not trying to protest dresses”, she wanted to make sure “young girls and women knew they aren’t a requirement. And that you don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to, and to just be yourself because your worth is more than that.”

Some may hesitate to opt for pants for a formal event for fear of either being too casual, or not sexy enough. These are common concerns I hear from clients. Thankfully, there are ways to create appropriate, stunning, and definitely sexy looks without a dress or skirt. One simple way is with a jumpsuit. It allows you to reap the benefits of pants, without the stress of having to put together separates for a cohesive look.

While a jumpsuit might be tricky getting on and off, it’s worth it in the long run.
